In early 2004, Chef Ake Waratap and Wanarat Jayaphorn (Nan) decided to bring the first authentic Thai cuisine “Basil Thai & Bubble Tea” to the Greater Lafayette area (home of Purdue University). We were pleased with the acceptance and praise from our patrons. In 2008, we decided to establish a second location, Thai Essence. 

The restaurant was designed to serve the guest population from Purdue University, Purdue Research Park as well as the residents from the greater Lafayette area. Thai Essence thrives from our strong principal in quality and hospitality. The restaurant not only embodies the cuisine of Thailand, but also other aspects of the culture including decoration and atmosphere.
